Isle of Wight care home’s trailer pod is a hit!

care home mobile trailer visitor podThe new care home visiting pod at The Limes in Bembridge, Isle of Wight, has brought smiles to the faces of both residents and their families. Covid-19 has understandably brought uncertainty to everyone living in care, and indeed their relatives and loved ones.

Understanding the importance for residents to see their families and loved ones in a face to face environment, the team at The Limes decided to investigate Covid safe visiting possibilities. The internet led them to Showplace!

Having assessed the range of options available, Myles Dewen, director of The Limes, decided to opt for one of our visiting pods for care homes. Whilst perfect for safely facilitating family visits during this pandemic, particularly through the winter months, Myles realised the longer term benefits of purchasing a trailer visitor pod.

Commenting on the care home visitor pod, Myles said, ”The trailer is ideal as it provides a safe and warm environment for our residents to meet with their families. Also, The Limes is a continually evolving site and company and so my hope is that when this pandemic is over, we can continue to use the trailer for a range of purposes, including exhibiting at shows.”

The Showplace team installed a 4.8m trailer in the grounds of The Limes. Fixed with a ramp and a lift facility to enable wheelchair access, the trailer has a full height internal glass division to prevent any air transmission between residents and their visitors. Fitted with lighting and an electrical supply, the pod will be light and warm for users throughout the cold, dark months. Quick to install, and with no requirement for planning permission, our trailers are a speedy and safe solution to enable care home visits. Also fitted with vinyl flooring and wipe clean surfaces, our trailers are easy to sanitise too.

The team at The Limes in Bembridge wanted to reassure everyone that they are doing their utmost to protect all those who they look after, while supporting residents’ families and the care home’s staff at the same time.

Eleni Dove, deputy manager at The Limes, said: “We are so proud of our family of staff, residents and relatives who have shown incredible resilience, empathy, kindness and compassion over the past few months. “It has been a struggle for many, particularly those with dementia, some of whom are unable to understand the need for social distancing, face masks and the ever changing rules to maintain those critically important relationships. “At The Limes, we have done our utmost to maintain contact through video calls and visits through the window but it has still been a tough time for many. “Although telephone and video calls have ensured some contact has been maintained, they don’t come close to seeing your family and friends face to face. “Which is why we are so excited by our new visiting pod, residents are separated from their visitors by a robust glass panel with two-way intercom. “Our  care home visiting pod provides a safe, winter proof, compartmentalised solution to ensure that residents can experience face to face interaction with their friends and families. “We look forward to welcoming back our relatives and loved ones to The Limes. We’ve missed you.”
