In 2017, the Coventry City of Culture Trust and the city of Coventry, were successful in their bid to become the UK’s city of culture and are now busy preparing to deliver an eclectic and vibrant programme of events and initiatives, ready to commence in May 2021. Celebrating Coventry with a full and exciting year of events, music, dance, and theatre to name a few, will bring people together from across the region while also providing much needed resources for local artists, organisations and communities, as well as securing a legacy for the city and its people long into the future.
The UK City of Culture is a competition run by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) every four years. Previous winners are Derry/Londonderry in 2013 and Hull in 2017. Coventry is a diverse, modern and forward thinking city, intent on showcasing the role that culture can play in unification and bringing people together.
